Dear petitioner,
Good morning! As you probably know, there was an extremely violent incident this week on South Broad Street between an ATV rider and a driver.
The issues of illegal dirt bikes and ATVs on our streets has gotten wildly out of hand. Council Members Alan Domb and Mark Squilla have been our champions on City Council but we are trying to get additional support for them among their fellow Council Members.
We are asking for your help with a letter writing campaign to Philadelphia City Council Members to enlist their help with this matter. Please take a few minutes to drop the attached note to Council President Darrell Clarke, all at-large city council members along with your district member, if you know him or her. We have omitted Council Members Domb and Squilla who are already leading such efforts at City Hall.
Below is the letter and the addresses for City Council Members.
Thanks for your help with this important issue. Sallie, Tom, John and Rick
"Dear Council Member XXXXXX:
I am writing to bring your attention to the ongoing issue of illegal dirt bikes and ATVs on the streets of Philadelphia. For several years now, these vehicles have posed a safety risk for drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and other vehicles on the street, as was sadly demonstrated Tuesday, March 9 on South Broad at Washington Avenue when an ATV rider attacked and pulled a gun on a motorist after an accident.
In addition to the safety hazards, they negatively affect our quality of life, since most of the vehicles are unmuffled, with many intentionally rigged to amplify noise which penetrates into living rooms and bedrooms, sometimes into the early morning hours. They also have a serious economic/business and tax revenue impact.
Your fellow Council Members Alan Domb and Mark Squilla are proposing measures to get these illegal vehicles off the streets and I would like to ask you to support their efforts. The police haven’t been able to curtail this behavior and the number of these vehicles has only increased over the past few years and with spring coming up the numbers are only going to increase.
These illegal vehicles pose a hazard to motorist/pedestrians/bicyclists, impact businesses and the city economically, and affect the quality of life in Philadelphia. We look to our city officials to find a solution.
Thank you for your time and your help in addressing this serious issue.
Regards,
NAME xxxxxxxx"
