There are four of us who have been involved in this initiative since last summer. If you have been reading the updates, you know that we have contacted city officials, police and business groups. The following is an excerpt from a recent letter sent by members of our group to these local officials and advocates for our cause (and yours!). Please take the time to reach out to your Councilmen through letters and emails. Write now and then again as the weather warms up and when we expect the ATV/Dirt Bike situation to become worse. Continue to share this petition with Philadelphians. Here is an excerpt of the recent letter sent to Councilmembers:
" We want to enlist your support for finding a solution for illegal off-road vehicles creating safety concerns and excessive noise on our city streets. The dirt bikes, ATMs and other unlicensed vehicles pose a safety problem as they weave in and out of traffic, ride on the wrong side of the road (and even on sidewalks), disregard traffic lights, intentionally block oncoming traffic and parade around without lights after dark. It is also a quality of life problem, since most of the vehicles are not only unmuffled, with many intentionally rigged to amplify noise which penetrates into living rooms and bedrooms, sometimes late into the early morning hours.
To date, the Kenney administration has no shown no interest in addressing the problem and PPD tends to give us all the reasons they cannot put enough resources into the problem to make a noticeable difference. We have gotten some attention from City Council Members Allan Domb and Mark Squilla, but they need assistance. We hope you will make contact them and offer your support for their efforts.
At this stage, thousands of city residents like us have come to believe that there is no one in the Kenney administration that cares about the problem we have with illegal vehicles crisscrossing our city. It doesn’t seem right that our only choice is to purchase white noise machines to sleep because no one has the political will to help us. We hope you have join Council Members Domb and Squilla and can lend your support.
Regards, John Murphy and Thomas Ayers
