Keep our community safe, stop the mega-boarding house in our suburb

Keep our community safe, stop the mega-boarding house in our suburb

The issue

Stop the development of the mega-boarding house on Thomas Street Parramatta and keep the area safe.  Protect the residents, the families, the children at the childcare centre on Thomas Street, the students at the girls' school on Thomas Street and the elderly in the aged care facility on Thomas Street.

The developer has planned for the mega-boarding house to include 237 boarding rooms.  Unsafe and un-savoury boarders will put us at risk, especially our children and the vulnerable.

Why is the developer using irrelevant information in their proposal? Statistics from 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2016 is very outdated, but the developer has used this outdated information rather than the current situation in the proposal.  Doesn't this create deception re the safety issues, the community, the excess traffic and the additional parking problems that the mega-boarding house will cause?  Example: The traffic around Parramatta has become very bad in the past couple of years (even worse since the start of the tram-works), however, the developer is using traffic information from 2013, stating that there is not much traffic in this part of Parramatta and the mega-boarding house won't cause any traffic problems.  Another example: the boarding house parking will only cater for 118 cars.  Where will the boarders in the other 119 boarding rooms park their cars?

The mega-boarding house is proposed for 85-91 Thomas Street, a quiet residential street in Parramatta.  There is already an over-supply of affordable accommodation, boarding houses and vacant hotel rooms in other parts of the Parramatta LGA, there is no need for a mega-boarding house in a residential area.  Please help us to stop the approval process and to keep the area safe.
