Advocacy groups Good Trouble Monroe and the Anishinabek Caucus of the Democratic Party are hosting a peaceful rally, Custer Falls Again, (on June 25, 2021 from 4:30pm-8pm) to protest the George Armstrong Custer statue in Monroe, Michigan.
On May 21, 2021, Julie Dye, a Pokagon Elder, asked the United Tribes of Michigan to support the endeavor to remove the George Armstrong Custer from Monroe, Michigan. The UTM unanimously voted to support the removal of the George Armstrong Custer monument. We have attached the resolution for your review.
The Custer Falls Again rally is a family event. There will be Indigenous performances and music, Indigenous food, notable speakers and the chance to meet local celebrities and officials running for office.
We have been imploring the Monroe City Council to remove the Custer statue for over a year. We've held ten rallies, garnered a petition with over 14,000 names, attended numerous city council meetings with testimonials and have received support from fourteen organizations and counting:
