Preserve Mitcham's Residential Character Area

The issue

We, the undersigned Residents of Hawthorn, Westbourne Park, Cumberland Park, Lower Mitcham and Torrens Park:

  1. Support the establishment of the Special Residential Character Area for Hawthorn, Westbourne Park and Cumberland Park put forward by the Council as part of the Development Plan amendments, but say this does not go far enough.

  2. Consider that the tree canopy and green spaces of the Mitcham Plains Area are being eroded by excessive sub-division and new build development with inadequate garden space.

  3. Call on Council and State planning authorities to propose better planning controls to safeguard and preserve the character, heritage and green qualities of the area.

  4. Urge the Council to ensure that the height of development does not overshadow homes in residential areas, including newly permitted
development along arterial roads such as Belair and Goodwood Rd, and to ensure that traffic density is part of the approval process for
    new development

We, the residents, want more say in how our neighbourhood is to be developed and to ensure that the enjoyment of living in these tree-lined suburbs won't be compromised by amendments to the Development Plan.
