In Miami there are statues of Christopher Columbus and Juan Ponce De Leon. I believe these statues, like the statues of confederate generals should be removed. They are symbols of colonialism, death, and white supremacy. We have no need for symbols of hate! Christopher Columbus took people as slaves-you can read his own diaries and see the horrific abuse of indigenous people.
These are the people who deserve a spot of honor not murderers and slavers. Here in Florida thousands of indigenous people were slaughtered, put into slavery or forced to abandon their culture. 

These statues need to be taken down and replaced with a memorial to BIPOC who were murdered to create this country. Help Miami be an example to the rest of the country that we will not glorify genocide and that will will honor those killed.
