Hello everyone and happy 2017!
We have some great news. Thanks to all of you who signed this petition, the City of Miami Beach will be sharing the plans for the park more widely with residents and the commission prior to going before the Design Review Board (DRB) for approval.
This wouldn't have been possible without the North Beach Neighbors Alliance, the Facebook group Clean Up Miami Beach and all the citizens who shared the petition and contacted the city about the park.
Again, thanks to all of you.
Also, we have been able to learn more details about the plan and want to correct some information that was stated in the original petition:
1. The only space that was ceded to the real estate developer was the public parking next to the park located at 87th Terrace (The city already vacated this property).
All portions of the park will remain public.
2. As stated in the last update, the donation by the developer was $6.7 million to be allocated to the $ 10.5 million dollar budget for the park renovation. The city already hired 2 architecture firms and is currently being designed by Calvin, Giordano and Associates, Inc., and West 8.
We just received information that a public meeting will be set up for the week of January 23rd, 2017, time and location are not available yet. I will be updating the petition with this information.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the meeting to ensure our tax dollars are not unnecessarily wasted and that we can keep our park naturally beautiful, with all its decades-old sea grape trees, conservation areas, natural shades, picnic shelters and exercise trails.
