Happy Holidays Newtown Park lights supporters!
As we approach the end of 2022, Johns Creek is also approaching the end of their Recreation and Parks Master Plan process. The consultant is expected to wrap up their final drafts in the coming weeks and present it to the Johns Creek council in January/February. After the plan is presented, the city council will likely start to create a timeline for funding for these proposals and could start voting on items soon after.
As you may know, this Master Plan is expected to shape and guide the city for the next 15 years in terms of where to spend city money, what types of amenities to invest in, and more. Many of you participants in the consultant's online survey a few months ago to share your input - Thank you! Making your voice heard as a community is exactly what Johns Creek needs to plan appropriately and fulfill the desires of the citizens.
In the November RPAC (Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee) meeting, the topic of lights at Newtown Park came up. (Skip to timestamp 1:24:30 if you don't want to hear the whole meeting) Meeting As you can tell, there are still a small group of vocal Johns Creek residents that are extremely against any sort of lighting at Newtown Park.
With the Master Plan process wrapping up, it is more important than ever to ensure our voices are heard as vocally as these residents. There are two final opportunities to let your opinions and voices be heard: Jan. 5th at City Hall (11360 Lakefield Dr.) and Jan. 9th at Park Place (3125 Old Alabama Road). Both meetings will take place at 6:00 p.m. If you are available, please consider attending one of these meetings to share your interest in lighting Newtown Park.
Thank you all for your support toward bringing lights to our local park!
