Victory -- Unamious Vote -- #KeddyAccessTrail now official!
May 10, 2018 — VICTORY!
The name is official -- Keddy Access Trail (KAT)
Unanimous vote today by City Council to name the new Claremont Multi-Use Trail after Jay Keddy. The name that was approved is "Keddy Access Trail"
The acronym is KAT which makes it easy to say "Let's take the KAT".
-- Keddy is honouring Jay Keddy and his legacy;
-- Access in accessibility of both sides of the escarpment & born from Claremont Access;
-- Trail as in being a multi-use trail for everyone;
Naming the trail provides a lot of awareness-raising opportunities in honour of Jay Keddy -- and encourages more usage & exercise with trail naming awareness -- as an additional safe option for everyone -- on foot or on wheels -- including bicycles, wheelchairs, rollerblades, skateboards, etc.
The decision was quick, with a standing ovation. Fortunately an easy decision for everybody involved, including City Hall. It is clear virtually everyone agreed this was a no-brainer. The Keddy Family thanks you so much for continuing his legacy.

NEXT STEPS FOR NAME:
Signage & Wayfinding & Walking GPS
One construction comes closer, the next steps for the Keddy Access Trail will be to negotiate wayfinding signage that will be installed.
The desire is to ensure there is wayfinding signs at all access points (See map at https://i.imgur.com/OAI7vPp.jpg ) in both directions (such as "To Escarpment Rail Trail" and "To Keddy Access Trail" or similar to-be-approved signage)
Responsibility For Signage:
We will find out who will need to arrange for the way-finding signage -- city or ward or community -- for the appropriate channels once we know who will be responsible for the Keddy Access Trail signage.
Jay Keddy's Legacy:
We will make sure the signage is respectful to Jay Keddy's legacy in keeping everyone safe on the Multi-Use Trail on both sides of the Escarpment.
Honouring the Unknown:
A few have expressed a desire on how to honour the unknown too: Unlike Jay Keddy who will have a trail named after him, there are many unknown: Over well more than a century, many have died over the years on roads, on sidewalks, on trails, on foot, on bike, kids crossing the street, many of who have no dedication. Keddy Access Trail provide an opportunity to also discuss this sensitive topic, as a community discussion, and come up with spinoff ideas (e.g. a plaque, a symbol, etc).
GPS Maps For Walking Directions:
Some of us have prior experience submitting modifications to Google Maps and Apple Maps. We will coordinate with all parties to make sure Keddy Access Trail is searchable in the most common walking GPS systems.
The currently expected begin date of construction is 2019. Construction timeline length is yet TBD -- follow www.twitter.com/KeddyTrail to keep up to date.
Thank you so much,
