Mayor and Council agreed tonight to move forward with submitting RFPs and identifying potential consultants for the project. This does not incur a cost. They will reconvene in October to decide on whether to move forward or not with the consultant. If they decide to move forward, around that timeframe you can expect the following: - Spending would begin - Details on the traffic study - Opportunities for community outreach After October, the Council can still decide not to continue but would be responsible for paying back any spent dollars. It is unclear how much time will be allotted for the final decision following October, as VDOT has not yet communicated a clear deadline but is pressing for a response. Mayor and Council are encouraging VDOT to provide time for both a traffic study and community outreach. A final decision is likely between October and December so stay tuned -- we will need your support and voices in Q4. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who has signed the petition so far.
