Dear one who is unhappy with the cycle track,
It has been some time since I was in touch on this matter. The Council is forging ahead with its daft plan and will commence construction in the autumn. We have therefore lodged a petition with the Council calling for a Small Business Compensation scheme at www.edinburgh.gov.uk/directory_record/1067131/ccwel_cycle_link_-_small_business_compensation_scheme The petition was lodged by George Rendall of Art et Facts in Roseburn; it has the backing of Murrayfield Community Council. Shops on Leith Walk got compensation because of tram works, so there is precedent.
This email is for information only; the public cannot sign this petition, only traders can. It is also a call for help.
Before a petition can be considered by the Transport committee of the City of Edinburgh Council, it must receive a minimum number of signatories. Petitions from businesses require at least 20 business that are on the Valuation Roll. Our petition must attract the minimum number of signatories by the closing date we have chosen of 31 January 2019.
When viewing the petition, note that if your browser is Internet Explorer v11 you will need to use the scroll bar at the bottom of the box to see all the text.
If you want to see our supplementary information that the Council has already received, please download it at www.kidsnotsuits.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/PETITION-COMPENSATION-FOR-SMALL-BUSINESSES-AFFECTED-BY-CCWEL.pdf
Traders cannot sign the petition just yet. The link that the Council has given takes you to a form meant for Edinburgh residents (which is for a public petition, not a business one). We (George and I) have asked the Council to get the proper online form for businesses on our link instead. Hopefully that will be sorted early next week and we can get the traders to start signing.
I need your help. There are 75 businesses in that list; we hope many will join us in asking the Council to make sure all survive the next three years. Would you like to help us visit the shops? Traders are busy people; many will not sign up without some reminding. They can sign on paper if they prefer. If you feel like getting out, please let me know and I shall equip you with a clipboard, a list of businesses and a signing sheet.
The cycle track construction is due to commence this autumn. As well as the loss of parking, many of the side streets at Haymarket & Roseburn will become one-way or inaccessible to cars. View the plans online at:
