A major publicity event is planned for Monday to promote Option A along Roseburn Terrace. At 7.45am on Monday morning, the Friends of the Earth (and Spokes) have organised a mass of cyclists to travel from West Register House on Charlotte Square to Roseburn Terrace along the course of the route. It will take them along Charlotte Square to Randolph Lane, onto Randolph Place, Melville St,then Manor Place, Palmerston Place, Grosvenor Crescent, Roseburn Crescent, then Haymarket Terrace, along West Coates to Roseburn to end at Eat'n'Joy, 49 Roseburn Terrace at around 8.45 am. (The owner of that delightful chippy is unhappy at the track and knows nothing of this plan). Andy Wightman, the Green MSP will be there- he is a strong supporter of the scheme. I imagine Green Cllrs too. And the media. For most of the cyclists, I imagine this will be their first time to this part of town and as such is a good opportunity to highlight to them why this scheme is a bad idea. If you think you’d like to help explain why this scheme is bad for the shops, for congestion and pedestrian safety, you might choose to stand on the pavement somewhere along the route with a placard – or simply with your arms folded. If you have a bike with you, so much the better. There will be some of us outside Eat’n’Joy in Roseburn from 8.20am seeking to explain to cyclists why the scheme will not work and why they should be supporting the Roseburn Vision. I’ll be putting our exhibition up - Please join us! The BBC and Evening News will be there too. Other news- Liz East got this letter into the Evening News yesterday: D-Day for Democracy Tuesday is ‘D Day’ for the Transport and Environment Committee’s decision on the proposed Roseburn/Haymarket cycle route. Having failed to explore or cost our preferred option, The Roseburn Vision, as asked by the SNP Group, will the Committee ignore the 6,000 signatures opposing their scheme, the concerns for the livelihoods of 54 businesses, the views of taxi and bus companies and our local Councillors, the impact on commuters travel, the danger for the elderly and the safety concerns from local cyclists? I doubt it. My view is it will be another ignored public consultation and another untested, costly and seriously flawed scheme foisted onto a local community. I hope I am wrong. Elizabeth East Stanhope Place Of course you are also welcome at join us at the City Chambers on Tuesday at 9am too. I’ll be inviting the press. Best wishes Pete Gregson
