Save the Canadian geese!

People need to slow down between Stevenson Rd (Vedder Rd) and Britton Rd/Spruce Rd (Vedder Rd) lights as this is the home where lots of Canadian geese and ducks live. These animals specifically the Canadian geese have been getting hit trying to cross the road to get to water or for food. 

There have been 3 geese hit in the week of June 16th 2021- June 24th 2021. We do not want to see any more get hit by vehicles because they were speeding down this stretch of road. I know this is a very busy main road and as many may know there is also Sardis Elementary School on the corner of Manuel Rd and Vedder Rd, so kids do live by and they do not need to see or experience a National animal getting hit and left on the side of the road. This will also make it not just safer for the geese but safer for the kids and adults who live by.

We need to change the speed limit or put up reflective signs and warnings for this stretch of Vedder Rd. These Canadian geese need to be saved and we need to fight for them. They can not fight for themselves and the spring/ summer is the main time of year that they are around this area. This is THEIR home and we need to respect it and them. This is their lives we are fighting for, their home we are fighting for and things need to change. For every person who does not slow down for these amazing creatures is disrespecting our country and the Canadian geese as they are our National bird! It breaks my heart to see this happening and I do not want my kid or any other kid to see this tragedy when walking or driving down the road.

I’m hoping that the City of Chilliwack and the Mayor of our town will help us fight to change and solve this problem that keeps happening.
