Delft has became a havoc of illegal connection that resulted in death of 3 dogs
The Issue
During 2019 many people died in Marikana and Lower fighting against illegal connections and that was the only time which the government took this matter seriously which i believe it will be the case in Delft. We are faced with illegal connections by people who are illegally residing in a piece of land that was by now suppose to be a cemetery. Towards the end of 2019 these people connected their wires in which the transformer was damaged and was the replaces by Eskom during that time and as the community concerned we told Eskom to make a plan about these people but nothing happened.
About 2 weeks ago these people again connected their wires to the new transformer and as the community we took them off and these people started throwing bricks at us which left some of us injured and some were taken to hospital. We then went to the police station to seek protection against these people but that did not help as they told us that we must leave them alone because the have firearms and they might kill us, but what we asked ourselves is that if they are aware of these illegal firearms why are they not arresting them for possession of these illegal firearms. We left the police station without any help.
Last week 3 dogs died because of these illegal connections which created anger in the community and the people again took of these wires with the presence of the police but the following day these people were back putting these wires back and when we tried calling the police they never showed up. This petition is the last resort for us at the community to be heard by City of Cape Town and Eskom because these we have been trying to get help but no one is willing to help.
We as the community want to know from the City of Cape Town why these people are still residing in a piece of land that was suppose to be a graveyard 10 years ago and we want to know from Eskom that why are we fighting for resources that belong to them why must we suffer for something that they are not willing to die for. To some of us dogs are our family and why is it that animals must die for something that they do not even know exist.
