We the residents, rate and tax payers of Busselton and other concerned citizens want the authorities in charge of the Lower Vasse River, including the City of Busselton an the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation to halt any further spending of public monies on the Lower Vasse River unless that money and work is directly related to reducing the toxic cyanobacteria (blue green algae) levels in the entire 5.5kms of the river downstream from the drain culvert. The cyanobacteria has been linked to Parkinsons and Motor Neurones Diseases as well as other neurological disorders and public health is more important than any other issues associated with the Lower Vasse River. The current Living Streams proposal for just 800 metres of the river outside the council building is remedial work that should only go ahead after the 5.5kms of the river have been thoroughly cleaned by an environmentally responsible,  experienced operator.
