Establish a Self-Sufficiency wage for City of Boulder employees and city contractors.

The Issue

On February 16, Boulder City Council will vote on city wages. This is an opportune moment for the city to improve the lives of several hundred employees, some who are currently earning wages as low as $8.50 per hour.

The Coalition requests that City Council implement a $15.67 per hour Living Wage for all City of Boulder employees and the employees of for-profit city contractors working on city projects. $15.67 was derived by averaging the hourly self-sufficiency wage required for a single adult, and and the hourly self-sufficiency wage required “per adult” for a family with two working adults, a pre-schooler and a school-age child.

The Colorado Center on Law and Policy released the 2015 self-sufficiency standard that shows how much various household sizes need to earn in order to live in Colorado without government assistance. Check out the self-sufficiency rate for Boulder and more at the Coalition's website: http://selfsufficiency201.wix.com/ss2016

The Self-Sufficiency 2016 Coalition is gathering steam, and has a proposed resolution that is being presenting to individual members of the Boulder City Council.

Thank you for considering this important step forward for low-income workers.
