Hello All,
Thank you for your support of saving the view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the Campanile/Campanile Way. This email will address three talking points. 1. My Video For Campanile Way, 2. City Council Meeting (tonight) and 3. News Coverage
***Please share the petition tonight and encourage your networks to sign. I would love to stand before the Mayor as a lowly student and say my petition has 4,000 signatures. This can happen if you can share it on Facebook today.
1. All day Wednesday and by appointment at smithalexandra@berkeley.edu I will be filming statements from perspectives of what the view means to you. I had 41 students, faculty, and alumni show up on Monday. A HUGE thank you to all of you. This video will show the unique thousands of people who signed this petition. Please email me to schedule an appointment to come make a brief comment at smithalexandra.berkeley.edu ; if you speak non-English language NATIVELY, we would love to talk to you as we have a demand for that in the video. Faculty, alumni, we have a demand for you as well. Students, we have a huge demand for you as well. Filming takes about five minutes and it will be impactful.
#2 From my Counter Part Steve and Friends, there are City Council meetings tonight. I will be speaking. Information:
TONIGHT, May 5, the Berkeley City Council is holding a special meeting and public hearing on "significant community benefits" from proposed high rise buildings in Downtown Berkeley.
2180 Milvia Street, 7:00 PM. Agenda link: http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/Clerk/City_Council/2015/05_May/City_Council__05-05-2015_-_Special_Meeting_Agenda.aspx
If you can go, please tell the Council that saving Campanile Way views is an essential community benefit. The Council needs to keep hearing that people care about this issue.
THIS THURSDAY, May 7. The Berkeley Landmarks Preservation Commission will be discussing the proposed 2211 Harold Way development, the tower that would block part of the Campanile Way views.
There is not a public hearing, but you can speak for up to three minutes during "public comment" at the beginning of the meeting. Tell them that the view is historic and important and the building must be altered to preserve it.
7:00 PM, North Berkeley Senior Center, Hearst / Martin Luther King, Jr. Way. Agenda link: http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/Planning_and_Development/LPC_and_DRC/LPCAg050715.aspx
Please come show support!!
