Write to the Berkeley City Council TODAY to urge them to protect Campanile Way and the views of the Golden Gate from the UC Berkeley campus. In April the Berkeley Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) voted 5-3 to deny landmarking of the historic Campanile Way on the UC Berkeley campus. They were given inaccurate information about Campanile Way by City staff, and supporters of Downtown Berkeley luxury highrise development lobbied against the landmarking. The LPC decision was appealed to the City Council and is on the Council agenda for a decision on Tuesday June 30, 2015. It is critical that the Council hear from the public about the value of Campanile Way and the value of the view of the Golden Gate from campus. You can write (email) to the Council at council@cityofberkeley.info The Council is specifically being asked to remand the decision back to the LPC for re-consideration; that is, direct the LPC to hold a new hearing and proper review with accurate facts on landmarking Campanile Way. Tell the Council you support the appeal. Please say in your email subject line that the email is about Item #26 on the June 30 Council agenda. Send your email before Monday, June 29. You can also come to the City Council meeting on June 30 and speak to the Council when this item is heard. The agenda, including meeting location, is here: http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/Clerk/City_Council/2015/06_Jun/City_Council__06-30-2015_-_Regular_Meeting_Agenda.aspx
