On Wednesday, August 1st, the Atlanta City Council's Transportation and Public Safety and Legal Administration Committees will meet at 1pm to update the Shareable-Dockless-Mobility-Devices ordinance. Please send your ideas for changes and additions.

One of the points of contention in the ordinance is a quota on how many vehicles an operator must provide to participate. Currently 100 to 600 vehicles is the proposed range, effectively blocking entry by small businesses, while discouraging larger competitors from staying in the market. Ofo recently pulled out of Atlanta, Dallas, Washington DC and Seattle, stating they are shifting to cities where growth is viable. (Seattle just imposed a $250,000 operator fee. Ofo is also adding eScooters, so they'll likely return to Atlanta.)
On Saturday, August 11th, Chattanooga is holding a community dockless mobility hackathon to provide input for their own shared mobility ordinance.
I'll be sharing ideas in Chattanooga for alternatives to city-wide quotes, including a round-robin parking allocation process. The industry-managed allocation of parking could be based on user preferences to guarantee that the vehicles parked by your home and work are the ones you prefer riding. Learn more:

Combining round-robin parking allocation with access to maps that show vehicles for all operators, will allow us to provide a level playing field for dozens of operators focused on quality and innovation, without over-crowding high demand areas.
If you're a coder or designer, we'd love to have your involvement. Our Code for Atlanta group meets next on Monday, August 13, 6:30pm at The Garage at Tech Square on 5th Street. We're currently working on shared mobility maps for Atlanta, Chattanooga and DC:

The first illegal group ride of eBikes and eScooters on the Beltline will be in September. Please send suggested dates. Volunteers are needed to coordinate with Atlanta cycling associations and the media.
Thanks for your interest!
