Why this petition matters

Started by ACO London Region

The three buildings that make up Bankers’ Row, a National Historic Site, were built 180 years ago.  They fell into disuse, but were purchased and restored by the Labatt Brewery in the 1960s.  Situated on a bluff overlooking the Thames River and Labatt Park (oldest continually operating baseball field in the world), they have been popular, sought-after commercial addresses since their restoration.  They housed the Labatt corporate offices for 20 years, and private schools and lawyers’ offices in more recent years.  Situated on Ridout Street between the Middlesex County Courthouse (another National Historic Site) and Eldon House (the oldest house in London), just up the street from Blackfriars Bridge (on the Canadian Register of Historic Places), this stretch of Ridout Street is arguably the most historic in London.  Steps away from Museum London, Harris Park, and the Forks of the Thames, it's in the centre of an area that is popular with locals and tourists alike.  There is a proposal to rezone Bankers’ Row to permit a 40-storey skyscraper that would share a wall with 451 Ridout Street and tower over Harris Park.

Please sign this petition and tell City Council that this is the wrong place for such a tall building!
