REINSTATE GRADUATION COMMENCEMENTS BACK TO THEIR REGULAR SETTING AT CITRUS COLLEGE

REINSTATE GRADUATION COMMENCEMENTS BACK TO THEIR REGULAR SETTING AT CITRUS COLLEGE

The Issue

With the chaos around us there have been many things that have fallen short of success, but something that has prevailed is the determination and dedication of the future graduates of 2021. Their hard work has proved that they are more adaptable and capable to take on the challenges the world will throw at them in these unpredictable times! They have shown us that it is possible to accomplish one’s goal when one is purposeful. This why I wanted to propose that graduation commencements be restored, with precautions.

There are many social events beginning to reopen within the next month, with restrictions, Disneyland and California Adventure being a good example. Disneyland and California Adventure are the most infamous amusement park(s) in the country. They plan to reopen April 30, 2021. Some details to their reopening include face coverings, temperature screenings, and reservations to help predict and limit capacity. If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, you are asked not to attend. The invitation is only open to in-state residents. Anyone that is not a California resident will not be allowed in the park(s). Groups no larger than 3 households as well. All of these guidelines are CDC approved.

That is why I believe if community colleges and universities adopted these same guidelines, graduation ceremonies can be restored safely. I, personally, have dedicated many years to my studies in hopes to be able to celebrate at the graduation commencement with my fellow peers. To be stripped away from such a deserving reward feels so devastating. It is unfair to every single student who has worked so hard; especially, with the challenge of transitioning to online classes for the last year of their studies! I want everyone to consider the persistent attitude it must take to achieve the goal of being a college graduate and sign this petition!

Graduation commencements should be restored following these guidelines.
1. Reservations are required.
2. Face coverings are mandatory.
3. Temperature screenings before entry.
4. No groups larger than 3 households.
*You must be a resident in California.*            *If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, do not attend.*
