Citizenship Immigration Bill To Be Inclusive of ALL

The Issue

After 10 years of crisis, life is harder than ever for displaced Syrians. As of today, 13.4 million were forced to flee their homes and are in need of humanitarian and protection assistance, 6.6 million are refugees worldwide and 6.7 million are internally displaced. The Syrian crisis continues and we are in dire need of your support.

On behalf of the Syrians and other communities under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), we ask for your help to ensure that our voice is heard and that our community is not left out of any upcoming immigration reform.

While the immigration reform bill is being crafted on Capitol Hill, individuals who arrived in the United States in recent years should not be left out of any immigration plans. TPS was made available to Syrians in 2012 after the war began, therefore the majority of Syrians under this status have more recent registration dates.

We urge lawmakers to include registration dates starting 2020 to ensure that the immigration bill is inclusive of all individuals who immigrated to the United States recently. If the registration dates are not recent enough, MOST, if not all, Syrians will be left out of the bill.

The political unrest and the ongoing economic challenges in Syria should urge lawmakers to ensure that Syrians do not live in fear of losing their temporary protection if any political change occurs in the United States in the future.

Many Syrians, like other immigrants, are essential in the workforce, combating the pandemic and providing medical, agricultural, and food services to the community.

This does not only affect Syrians, but also individuals from Venezuela, Burma and Haiti, totaling over 40,000 current TPS holders.

We truly hope we are given a chance to build a bright future in the United States. In the meantime, we will continue to work hard to support and give back to the community.

Respectfully,
The Syrian Community and others under Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
