𝐔𝐑𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐘 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐘 & 𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐎𝐍 𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐙𝐄𝐍𝐒!

We need your help! We just received word that a major factor preventing the build-out of the four (4) Equinix data center buildings in the City of Hampton is the lack of a Water Service Agreement.

Data centers require significant amounts of water to cool their servers. For closed-loop systems, the "recycled water" is most often treated with chemical additives to be consistently reused and not corrode equipment. That chemically treated water then needs to be discharged at some point, somewhere, somehow.

Subject:
Urgent Concerns Regarding Water and Sewer Agreements for Data Centers

Body:

**HCWA Customer Care - please forward this email to the Water Authority Board Members and Manager, Tony Carnell.**

—————

Dear Henry County Water Authority Board, Manager, and Henry County Commissioners,

I am writing to urge the Henry County Water Authority not to grant water and sewer development agreements to any data center projects at this time.

It is our understanding—and an immediate concern—that the Equinix data center site in Hampton does not currently have a water and sewer agreement in place, despite being under construction. Despite this, the City of Hampton has already approved three data center sites, with additional projects likely forthcoming due to imminent annexations.

While we understand that the City of Hampton operates as its own governing entity, the Henry County Water Authority plays a critical role in determining whether projects such as Equinix can move forward.

There are serious concerns regarding both local and regional water capacity. Currently, there are approximately 10 data centers within a 21-mile radius of the Towaliga Watershed, including those located in Hampton. These facilities collectively rely on the Towaliga Watershed, which, from our understanding, is not only Henry County’s only water source, but it is a major and finite water supply source for the State of Georgia.

What is most concerning is that the cumulative regional impact of these data centers on our water supply does not appear to be adequately evaluated. These projects do not operate in isolation—their water demands compound and ultimately draw from the same watershed.

Lastly, several of these "closed-loop" systems require chemical additives to treat the water for reuse; at some point, that chemically treated water will need to be discharged. We are concerned about whether the local Henry County water plants even have the capacity to filter out all those added chemicals. Furthermore, what local ordinances are in place to ensure they don't dump into local lakes and waterways?

I strongly urge you to listen to your constituents and take decisive action to protect our finite water resources before approving any additional data center water and sewer agreements.

Thank you,

Sincerely,

Your Constituent
