First, thank you for your support on the petition. We're over 1500 strong in support of reasonable flight paths. Now, let's keep the movement growing to 2000!
Next, we wanted to update you on the Town Hall meeting held last weekend:
Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the April 6th Town Hall Meeting. Unfortunately for, most, if not all of us in attendance, it was extremely disappointing.
The level of control the County exercised over its content and format was worthy of the disgust and dissatisfaction that was clearly expressed.
That said, the attendance was clearly impactful, as were the few “comments” that we were finally allowed to make (unfortunately after many left in utter frustration).
It is imperative that we do not lose this momentum and that we let our elected representatives, at all level of government, and most significantly, at the COUNTY, know that we have had it and we have reached our tipping point! Yes, JWA is big enough! No more expansion, which includes no more expansion of general aviation jet services!!!
These points were clearly made at the meeting and need to be repeated often:
- General Aviation (GA) jets are noisy and in some cases noisier than commercial aircraft. They need the same level of restrictions that apply to commercial aircraft.
- Corporate and on-demand charter jets should be reclassified as commercial aircraft that are clearly flown for profit – the companies that run them are clearly revenue-producing entities.
- Corporate and on-demand jet passengers should be required to go through security at JWA’s main terminal before boarding flights, just like every other passenger. A failure to do this creates a large security risk for our community and should not be tolerated.
- The County needs to consider raising fees for large corporate and on-demand charter jets using JWA, which might discourage an onslaught of new GA jets.
- Finally, and most importantly, all levels of government need to focus on the health of our communities. The fact that thousands of children, in Newport Beach alone, attend schools under or adjacent to the concentrated flight paths in and out of JWA, is unacceptable.
Please express your opinions regarding the above points by:
- Emailing each and every one of the Board of Supervisors and expressing your opposition: Lisa.Bartlett@ocgov.com; Doug.Chaffee@ocgov.com; Michelle.Steel@ocgov.com; Donald.Wagner@ocgov.com; Andrew Do: first district@ocgov.com.
- Attending the upcoming Board of Supervisor meetings: There is a meeting tomorrow on April 9thand they vote on their proposed plan on April 23rd. Meetings begin at 9:30 in the Hall of Administration at 333 W. Santa Ana Blvd., Santa Ana.
- Writing letters to the editors of the OC Register, Daily Pilot, Stu News and Independent and also post on NextDoor.
- Contacting Congressman Rouda and other governmental representatives who can also exert pressure regarding this issue and NextGen.
