After roughly a two hour meeting, before an overflow audience and many community speakers, the OC Airport Commission agreed it needed additional time to review and consider how it should advise the Board of Supervisors on the proposed GAIP.

The Commission also noted the rescheduling of the BOS meeting when making its decision. Prior to rescheduling the meeting, Commissioner Lee Lowrey, Vice Chair, voiced his support of Alternative #3 to the GAIP, which is the option most favorable for Newport Beach and the corridor cities.

These important meetings are now scheduled as follows:

  • Orange County Airport Commission Meeting – Wednesday, May 1st at 5:00 P.M. at the JWA Administrative Offices meeting room at 3160 Airway Ave., Costa Mesa. More info here.
  • Orange County Board of Supervisors Hearing - Tuesday, May 7th at 9:30 AM at the County Hall of Administration at 333 W. Santa Ana Blvd., Santa Ana. More info here.

Agendas for the meetings have not yet been posted; however, we know that the airport staff has recommended Alternative #1 of the GAIP, the most damaging to Newport Beach and the corridor cities. We have had excellent turnouts for the Town Hall meeting and Wednesday’s airport commission meeting.

The County is clearly getting the message that we think JWA IS BIG ENOUGH! Maximum participation in this upcoming meetings is essential if we have any hope of stopping the County from its plan to expand general aviation business jet services (flying 24/7), for the convenience of the privileged few, at the expense of the health and well being of those living under the flight paths.

We look forward to seeing you at these meetings to make your voice heard! In the meantime, e-mail each and every one of the Supervisors and Commissioners!

Time is of the essence – the Commission votes on May 1st as to how to advise the Board and the Board makes its decision on May 7th.
