A petition to return garbage cans to the parks, streets and playgrounds of Beverly, Mass.

The Issue

This is a petition to the leadership of Beverly, Massachusetts to bring back garbage cans to our beautiful city.

Within the past few years, the city of Beverly has removed most or all of the garbage containers in our parks, common areas, and playgrounds. The original intention was to force a carry-in, carry-out rule, which unfortunately seems to have gone terribly wrong.

What we’ve been left with is lots of garage; whether it’s an empty fast-food bag, coffee cup, mask, or most commonly, dog poop bags, these are now in piles around our city.

In some instances proactive citizens have tied garbage bags to the park benches and began grassroots garbage collection. These are tax paying citizens cleaning up our own parks.

The apparent reason why they were removed is said to be a union dispute whereas the Beverly city employees didn’t want to be in the business of daily garbage collection- and we get that, and agree.

What Beverly needs is a solution that brings in an outsourced collection (e.g. JRM) on a daily basis, with garbage cans throughout the city, in spots that the collection vendor agrees are convenient.

Sign this petition if you think Beverly should look into different and more modern collection techniques, and sun-powered composting bins that can be utilized. Beverly has been upgrading our city in so many amazing ways, let’s tell City Hall we want to add this vision to our future.

Please sign this petition so we can at least start the discussions with City Hall and demand a responsible solution.

On behalf of citizens of Beverly, thank you for reading and caring.
