THE ISSUE

Residents across Grimes County, Texas have recently become aware of discussions and early development activity related to multiple large-scale industrial projects, including proposed data centers, energy infrastructure, and related facilities in several areas of the county, including near the Iola–Bedias communities and the Gibbons Creek area.

While many details remain unclear, public records and community discussions suggest that developments of this scale could significantly impact multiple parts of Grimes County. These projects have the potential to affect land use, infrastructure, natural resources, and the rural character that residents value throughout our county.

Grimes County is home to farms, ranches, wildlife habitats, and close-knit rural communities. Many residents are concerned about how large industrial developments—such as data centers and related energy infrastructure—could impact our environment, infrastructure systems, and quality of life if not carefully planned and openly discussed.

Large-scale data centers are known to require enormous amounts of electricity and supporting infrastructure. These facilities can place heavy demands on regional power systems and may also require extensive land use, increased traffic, and significant changes to the surrounding landscape. For communities like ours—where residents value open land, clean air, quiet roads, and natural ecosystems—these potential impacts deserve thoughtful consideration and transparency.

While development and economic growth can benefit communities when responsibly planned, projects of this magnitude should include clear public information, responsible planning, and meaningful community input before decisions are made.

Residents of Grimes County are not opposed to responsible growth or new economic opportunities. However, developments that could affect large portions of our county should be approached with transparency and careful evaluation to ensure they align with the long-term interests of our communities.

Our county deserves clear information about what is being proposed and the opportunity for residents to fully understand the potential environmental, infrastructure, and quality-of-life impacts before major decisions move forward.

OUR REQUEST

We respectfully ask local officials and decision-makers to ensure:

• Full transparency regarding all proposed large-scale industrial developments in Grimes County
• Public meetings and presentations where residents can hear directly from developers and ask questions
• Careful evaluation of environmental, infrastructure, and community impacts
• Responsible planning that protects the long-term interests of Grimes County residents

Grimes County is more than land on a map—it is home to families, farms, wildlife, and generations of residents who care deeply about preserving the character of our rural communities.
