The Issue
سينمائيون ضد الصمت
بعد ٧٥ سنة من احتلال أرض فلسطين و٤٥ يوماً من عمليات الإبادة، لا يواجه الشعب الفلسطيني في غزة، اليوم، فقط حربًا أو مذبحة، وإنما تطهيرًا عرقيًا وإبادة جماعية ينفذها الكيان الصهيوني أمام أعين العالم أجمع. من واجبنا ومسؤوليتنا الآن، على المستويين الفردي كسينمائيين أو الجمعي كمهرجانات، أن نؤكد بأن ما يجري الآن هو إبادة جماعية للشعب الفلسطيني وأن نرفع الصوت للمطالبة بالوقف الفوري لإطلاق النار.
ايماناً منا بالدور الاعلامي والثقافي الذي يمكن أن تقوم به المهرجانات وعروض الأفلام فنحن نستهجن صمت المهرجانات السينمائية العربية في هذه المرحلة التراجيدية وعلى سبيل المثال لا الحصر، المهرجان الدولي للفيلم في مراكش الذي تجاهل دعوتنا السابقة الى اصدار موقف رسمي يدين العدوان الصهيوني على غزة واستمر بصمته مع الاستعدادات الأخيرة له، وأيضاً مهرجان البحر الأحمر السينمائي الدولي المزمع تنظيمه هذا الشهر والذي لم يصدر عنه أي إشارة لما يتعرض له شعبنا في فلسطين.
كسينمائيين من المنطقة العربية وبلاد الجنوب، ما زلنا نواجه حتى هذه اللحظة الصورة النمطية المفروضة على أفلامنا، ومشاكل التمويل المشروط. وبالرغم من كل هذه الصعوبات والتحديات، لا نستطيع أن نغض النظر او السمع او الحس عن الوضع المأساوي الحالي ونكمل أعمالنا السينمائية وكأن شيئا لم يكن.
إننا نعلن رفضنا لأن نكون في موقف الصامت المتغاضي عن جرائم الاحتلال، ونعلن موقفنا الواضح والصريح مع حق الشعب الفلسطيني بالمقاومة لنيل حريته من احتلال الفصل العنصري الصهيوني. ونتضامن مع كل صوت حر في أي مكان في المنطقة العربية وبلاد الجنوب والعالم أجمع. كانت فلسطين وما زالت فلسطين هي قضية جوهرية لكل الشعوب التي عانت من الاستعمار والحروب والظلم والعنصرية.
إننا نؤمن بالضرورة والحاجة لوجود مساحات عامة آمنة مع هامش واسع من الحرية، وبالتالي فنحن نتساءل كيف يمكننا صناعة سينما إن لم نكن أحراراً في التعبير عن حقيقتنا وواقعنا؟ هل نريد أن نربط مشاريعنا وأفلامنا بأطراف تتجاهل قضايانا، وتشتري حياديتنا وتسكت أصواتنا وتتلاعب بها؟ تجاهل هذه التساؤلات أصبح اليوم بمثابة غض النظر عن هذه الجريمة ضد الإنسانية التي تجري بحق شعبنا الفلسطيني حالياً.
نؤكد أن السينما لا تنفصل عن الحياة وعن واقعنا السياسي الذي فرض نفسه على كل تفاصيل حياتنا الشخصية والمهنية. وإن لم تلتفت هذه المهرجانات إلى قضايانا وتتواصل معها وتُعبّر عنها، وتسمع نداءاتنا المتكررة بإدانة العدوان والظلم الدائر حولنا، فإنها ومن خلال صمتها على هذا العنف تتعدى على مساحتها ومساحتنا وتطيح بالأماكن التي ظننا أنها ستكون آمنة ونستطيع أن نُعبّر فيها عن أنفسنا بحرية.
نحن صناع السينما من العالم العربي نحيي المهرجانات العربية أو الأجنبية التي اتخذت موقفاً واضحاً ضد إبادة الشعب الفلسطيني ونأمل من سينمائي العالم دعم هذه الحركة والتضامن مع الزملاء السينمائيين ممن سحبوا أفلامهم ومشاريعهم من المهرجانات التي ما زالت مصرة حتى هذه اللحظة على عدم الاعتراف بحرب الابادة الجارية ولا المطالبة بوقفها. كما ندعوهم الى التوقيع على هذا البيان.

Cinema Against Silence
75 years have passed on the occupation of Palestine, and 47 days have passed since the genocide in Gaza began. Today, Palestine is not only enduring a war or a massacre, but faces a full-blown ethnic cleansing and Genocide at the hands of the Zionist entity, carried out in full view of the world. It is our duty and responsibility now – both as individuals from the film industry or collectively as film festivals – to speak out and demand an immediate ceasefire. We must recognize that the Palestinian people are subjected to a qualified act of Genocide.
We believe that festivals and film screenings play an important role in the public discourse of culture. We therefore are dismayed by the silence of some Arab film festivals while this catastrophe continues to unfold. By way of example, the Marrakech International Film Festival has remained silent and ignored our previous invitation to condemn the aggression carried out by the Zionist state against the people of Gaza. Moreover, The Red Sea International Film Festival, scheduled to commence at the end of this month, has failed to even acknowledge the atrocities to which the people of Palestine have been subjected to this date.
As film professionals from the Arab region and the Global South, we face many challenges such as stereotypes and conditional financing imposed on us by the industry. Despite the numerous challenges and difficulties, we should not disregard, or remain oblivious to the unfolding tragedy and continue with our film involvements as if nothing has changed.
We cannot remain silent, nor do we condone the crimes perpetrated by the occupation power. We unequivocally support the Palestinian people’s right to be free and to resist the occupation of the racist apartheid regime. We also stand in solidarity with all the people from the Arab region, the countries of the Global South, and the rest of the world who were vocal in their support for Palestine. Palestine has always been a fundamental issue for all the peoples who have suffered colonial invasions, wars, injustice and racism.
We believe in the need for safe public spaces where we enjoy a large margin of freedom in support of our right to express ourselves freely. We therefore wonder, how could we make films if we were not free to express our genuine concerns and mirror our realities? Do we really want to tie our projects and films to circles that ignore our causes, buy our neutrality, or stifle and manipulate our voices? Ignoring these questions today is tantamount to turning a blind eye to this crime against humanity as it unfolds against our Palestinian people.
We affirm that cinema is inseparable from life, but also from the political reality which forced itself into our personal and professional narratives. By failing to acknowledge our realities, engage and be the mirror that reflects our causes, and by disregarding our repeated calls to condemn the acts of aggression and injustice inflicted upon us – festivals would leave the door wide open for violence to invade and compromise our collective spaces, which we expect to be a safe haven that allows us to freely express ourselves.
As film professionals from the Arab world, we welcome the Arab and international film festivals that have shown solidarity and taken a stand against the Genocide of the Palestinian people. We call upon the global film community to support this petition, and to stand in solidarity with our fellow filmmakers who have withdrawn their projects and films from the festivals that, until this moment failed to acknowledge this ongoing genocide and demand an end to it.
