Chronic Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma Awareness

Chronic Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma Awareness
The Issue
Tens of thousands of people all over the world are struggling with chronic urogenital infections that most people have never even heard of. Ureaplasma, mycoplasma genitalium, and mycoplasma hominis have been becoming a large problem for quite some time now. These infections have been disregarded for decades as harmless commensal bacteria, and only recently are gaining attention for their role in pathogenic infections that are transmitted sexually.
While the CDC has acknowledged and set treatment guidelines for these infections, most doctors are not up to date with this and refuse to treat them or treat them incorrectly, leading to antibiotic resistance and the spread of infection from person to person.
Furthermore, there is an alarming number of people who test positive for these bacteria, treat them, and then still have persistent infectious symptoms despite negative test of cure results. Thousands of women and men across various social media platforms are pleading for help. Doctors cannot explain why people who have done extensive antibiotic treatment and are testing negative for these bacteria AND all possible other urogenital infections are still suffering greatly. These people are left to just live with their symptoms- in pain and still contagious.
We believe that there is a major flaw in the NAA/PCR testing for ureaplasma and mycoplasma. We need more accurate testing, and better treatment options. Due to the bacteria lacking a cell wall, the only effective antibiotics for ureaplasma/mycoplasma infections include tetracyclines, macrolides, and fluoroquinolones. There are not many options, as resistance rates are already rising for each class dramatically.
Please sign this petition and aide us in raising awareness that we are STILL suffering and no one is helping us!
