Good evening,
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has reached out, signed the petition, shared information, or checked in. The support from our community has meant more than I can say.
This issue didn’t start this week, and it’s much bigger than most people realize.
For years, residents have raised concerns about traffic safety, code compliance, privacy, and quality-of-life impacts related to The Discovery School. Many tried to work directly with the school. Many contacted the City. Little changed.
Everything came to a head for my family in August, when my son was nearly hit by a car during school pickup. That moment forced me to dig deeper into what safety conditions are actually supposed to be in place.
I’ve helped organize and coordinate communication, but this effort reflects the voices and experiences of neighbors across our community who have raised these same concerns for years.
Over the past several months, we’ve reviewed planning documents, zoning approvals, inspection correspondence, and public records just to understand the conditions governing the school’s operation. What we found was deeply concerning. Based on the records we’ve reviewed, many of the conditions meant to protect children, residents, and quality of life do not appear to be actively enforced.
To date, we have not received notice of any enforcement action or a meaningful response to our requests to city officials. Meanwhile, the same City departments responsible for protecting public safety moved quickly to remove signs that were simply intended to inform neighbors about ongoing risks and the City’s lack of action.
This is not about opposing a school. It’s about safety, fairness, and accountability. It’s about ensuring that growth in a residential neighborhood happens transparently, with public input, and in accordance with the rules that already exist.
We issued a press release last week so the facts and documents are available to everyone.
