Child temporarily in CPS custody? Do you feel unheard, cast aside or ignored? Sign please!
The Issue
I am a mother who has faced the heartbreak of having my children placed temporarily in foster care. Like many parents in similar situations, I have been left feeling voiceless and powerless. While it is promised that we have rights, in reality, these rights are severely limited, especially when it comes to maintaining a meaningful relationship with our children. This needs to change to ensure the well-being of both parents and children.
In the current system, biological parents often face unnecessary hurdles preventing them from seeing their own children. The limited visitation schedules allowed by Child Protective Services (CPS) do not take into account the emotional and psychological impacts of separation on both parents and their children. Research has shown that children who maintain regular and meaningful contact with their biological parents experience better emotional stability and quicker reunification times. It is crucial that family bonds are nurtured, not severed.
By requiring CPS to increase the frequency and duration of visitations, we can foster better relationships between parents and children, lessening the trauma of being apart. Implementing policies that allow for more frequent and less restrictive visitations will benefit not only the families involved but the entire community by promoting healthier familial relationships.
Increased visitations can be monitored and executed in a way that ensures child safety, such as supervised visits in a neutral, supportive environment. This solution respects the protective work of CPS while prioritizing the parent-child relationship.
Sign this petition to demand change. Let's encourage CPS to reassess and amend their visitation policies so that children can have more time with their biological parents. Our children deserve the best chance to maintain relationships that are essential for their growth and well-being.
