We would like an overhaul and enquiry into the Australian child support system.

It takes two people to make a child, and all parties should be held accountable and fairly financially assessed. Parents should not be allowed to give income estimates instead of doing their taxes.

This overhaul also needs to include real consequences such as the debt effecting their credit rating. If they claim they cannot afford to pay child support there needs to be more of a close audit on their situation before reducing their payment and placing that added financial pressure over to the other parent who would already be carrying their fair share of it.
Too many parents are having the ability to under declare or hide income or refuse to do tax returns and allow the debt to rise to 10s of thousands whilst the other parent is forced into poverty because Centrelink see you as "receiving that money".

The debt needs to be taken on by Child Support or Centrelink department and have the other party owe these departments directly. It would soon be paid back quickly and we would have much much less of this child support debt. There also needs to be criminal charges and jail time for evaders.
