Remove the Blue Lives Matter flag from the Westampton Police Department

The Issue

Let me tell you about Westampton:
The population of Westampton, NJ is 24% black.
Westampton PD has no black officers. 25 police on the force, 24 are white.
The population of Westampton is only 54% white.

The Westampton Police Department flies a full-size Blue Lives Matter flag in their public information office, it is painted on their patrol cars, they wear the flag on their shoulders, and it's all over their website. It's actually very difficult to find any instance of the WPD associating themselves with the proper American flag.

Let me tell you about that flag:
The Blue Lives Matter flag and the Thin Blue Line were originally intended to be symbols of support for police and their families, and in many cases they still are, but it has become clear that the flag is now also flown and beloved by a segment of people who celebrate police brutality. The Black Lives Matter movement was founded in 2013 in response to the slaying of Trayvon Martin and countless others throughout history. The first instance of the Blue Lives Matter movement appeared shortly after, in 2014.

It is deeply uncomfortable to live in a town with a police force that does not operate under the flag I pledged my allegiance to.
The flag my grandfathers wore in Europe.
The flag my friends wore in the Middle East.
Westampton is a proud military town that knows what color our flag is and salutes the red, white, and blue.
I would ask when and why the WPD chose to adopt this new flag as their banner instead of the American flag.

Let me tell you what we can do about it:
This petition is inspired by the people and government of Middletown, CT. Just 1,300 signatures on their petition posted 2 weeks ago was all it took for the town to agree to the request to remove the flags in their department. I think we can do better than 1,300. I know I hope we can.

By signing this petition, you are attempting to enforce US and NJ law regulating the proper display of the American flag. You are simply asking the WPD to remove any images of the unauthorized flag or replace them with the lawful American flag. I look forward to the day when my local police department is once again proud to fly the flag of my country.
