Muqbil Ahmar started this petition to Chief Justice of India and

I am outraged and deeply pained at seeing a mob of masked criminals, armed with sticks, rods, and hammers, attacking the students and teachers of JNU on the night of January 5th, 2020. While armed criminals were allowed to roam freely and attack people, the JNU administration and Delhi police just stood and watched. The gates had been closed so the students could not even go out to save themselves.

This attack in not only on JNU but on everybody who believes in democracy.

Students and teachers are the future of this country. How can they be terrorized and made to live under the fear of violence? I have studied in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). It is my alma mater. Whatever I am today because of this great seat of learning. But that is not the point. It is a clear trampling of basic human rights.

Hundreds of videos and photographs have surfaced of masked criminals attacking students inside hostels. They even thrashed girls by going inside girls' hostels. Many students and teachers sent messages of SOS and sought help from police and administration but no help came. They were crying and bleeding.

According to accounts, hundreds of policemen stood outside the campus main gates for 3 hours, even as the goons continued with their rampage inside. The attacking mob had a free hand to do what they wanted. This is an utter breakdown of law and order. What is the police for? If students, who are the future of this country, are not safe in universities where do they go? What do they do?

Friends, we need to take a strong stand, otherwise no university campus in the country would be safe. The time to sit quietly is long gone. Let's protect our students and children. We need answers now.

Please sign this petition so that students and teachers and common man of the country does not live in fear!!!
