It has been some time since the last update which was posted before we reached 5,000 signatures. Things have been pretty quiet for a while but are starting to happen again now. A group of us gave a briefing to the Mayor, Albany City councillors and planning staff last Wednesday highlighting the many shortcomings and potential impacts of the proposal to develop a resort at Goode Beach and requesting that they reject Structure Plan 9 which would allow it to go ahead. You can access a copy of this briefing at the link with this update.
If you are a resident of the City of Albany and are concerned about the proposed development, there are two forthcoming opportunities to express your opposition to the resort which would put the Lake Vancouver wetlands and the Goode Beach environment at risk. The council’s Development and Infrastructure Subcommittee meets at 6 pm on Wed 11th July and there will then be a vote on Structure Plan 9 at a Council meeting at 6 pm on 24th July. Both meetings will be held at the City's administration centre at 102 North Road, Yakamia. There are opportunities to address and pose questions to the councillors at both meetings and we need as many people as are willing and able to do so to have their say. There is a 4 minute maximum per speaker and you need to register your intention to speak at least 15 minutes before the meeting commences. If you are uncomfortable speaking, you can show your support by simply coming along on the two evenings for an hour or so.
We will be posting regular updates on the outcomes on the Frenchman Bay Association Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Frenchman-Bay-Association-FBA-137923590237725/.
Your support is very much appreciated as we continue to try our best to prevent this potentially disastrous proposal from being implemented to the detriment of a very special part of the south coast of Western Australia.
