Unfortunately, this past week saw the removal of the Essex Cube take place in a moment reminiscent of the Mayflower vans of 1984, as it was swiftly torn down from its home of 40+ years and transported elsewhere. Official statements indicate that the Cube will possibly be dismantled, with portions of it to be displayed at the Essex/Middle River Heritage Society.
Though the people of Essex and the surrounding areas let their true voices be heard in support of the Cube it seems not many decision-makers were listening. I personally apologize for not taking the time to fully pursue the Cube Crusade and do whatever it took to keep it in its rightful place instead of its unnecessary and costly removal amid other much more pressing community needs that should be addressed. Grant money has been put towards a new structure replacing the iconic Cube. Perhaps there is still hope for the Cube, but if this is truly goodbye then this is a travesty. Future generations will never be able to fully appreciate and experience The Cube.
RIP ESSEX CUBE
