It’s been 7 days since our world changed forever… and somehow, in the middle of all this heartbreak, 218 people have stood beside us.
There truly are no words big enough to thank every single person who has signed, shared, commented, messaged us, cried with us, hugged us, or simply took a moment to care. In the darkest week of our lives, our community has wrapped its arms around our family, and we will never forget that.
We also now have a paper petition available at Bare Butts in Rama for anyone who would rather sign in person instead of online. The kindness and support they have shown our family has meant more than they probably realize. To open their doors for us, to help keep Chunk’s name alive, and to stand behind safer roads for our community — we are beyond grateful.
Over the last week, I have been doing everything I can to make sure our voices are heard. I’ve spoken with our ward councillor, reached out to our bus company, contacted Simcoe County asking for more information regarding road safety criteria, emailed our school transportation consortium, and continued pushing for answers.
The OPP have also followed through with enforcement efforts, and we are thankful for every officer trying to help keep this community safe. But the reality is heartbreaking — at times, Ramara has only one officer patrolling the entire township. How can families truly feel safe when resources are stretched so thin in a growing community?
What started as grief for our boy Chunk has become something so much bigger.
This is for Chunk.
This is for our children standing at bus stops.
This is for every parent who waits anxiously for headlights to slow down.
This is for every family who has lost someone on this road.
This is for every person whose heart carries a story tied to Monck Road.
Our home has been painfully quiet this week. The boys still cry for him. We still look for him out the window. We still expect to hear his paws on the floor or see him carrying one of his “treasures” through the house. The emptiness he left behind is indescribable.
But through all of this pain, you all reminded us that kindness still exists. That community still matters. That people still care.
Please continue sharing your stories with us in the comments or through private messages. I promise your voices will be heard, because every story matters and every life matters.
Please keep sharing.
Please keep signing.
Please keep helping us fight for change.
For Chunk. 🧡
