Last night, AGAIN, another driver went through our children’s school bus stop.
The excuse?
“I didn’t know what to do.”
But this SHOULD be common sense when you get your license. When the school bus lights are flashing, the stop arm is out, and children are loading or unloading — YOU STOP. No excuses. No guessing. No “I didn’t know.”
This is exactly why we are fighting so hard for change on Monck Road.
Over the last few days alone, we have watched countless vehicles aggressively pass big trucks, haulers, and commercial vehicles on this road. The amount of risky driving is unbelievable. These trucks use Monck Road every single day for work routes, deliveries, farming, construction, and hauling.
People seem to forget:
• Loaded trucks cannot stop on a dime
• Larger vehicles need significantly longer stopping distances
• Sudden braking can cause trailers to swing or loads to shift
• Trucks have larger blind spots and limited visibility
• Swerving in and out around them puts EVERYONE at risk
These drivers are trying to do their jobs safely and make it home to their families too.
Passing dangerously, weaving around trucks, racing around buses, and ignoring flashing lights is not impatience anymore — it’s reckless.
Our family already lost Chunk because of the dangers on this road. We refuse to stay silent and wait for the next tragedy to involve a child, another pet, a truck driver, or another family.
This petition is not just about us anymore.
It’s about accountability.
It’s about safer roads.
It’s about protecting our community before another life is changed forever.
