The Issue

We, the undersigned members of the Program Coordinator community, hereby request the ACGME and CAMPEP to formally change our title from Program Coordinator to Program Administrator.

We believe that the title of coordinator does not accurately represent the scope and importance of our work. As administrators, we are responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of our respective residency/fellowship programs, from recruitment and selection to curriculum development, evaluation, and budget management. We work tirelessly to ensure that our programs maintain their accreditation and graduate top-level specialists who collectively are equipped to improve the health and well-being of millions of people.

We understand that this change in title may seem like a small matter, but we believe it will have a significant impact on how our work is perceived and valued within our institutions and the larger healthcare community. The title of administrator accurately depicts the level of responsibility and expertise required to successfully manage a residency/fellowship program while removing the stigma that our profession is clerical in nature.

This title change will draw talented professionals to the position and reduce turnover, which will bring greater stability to our programs and ultimately reduce Program Director burnout.

We urge you to consider this petition and make the requested change of our title within the ACGME program requirements. We are proud of the work we do and want to ensure that our titles accurately represent the important role we play in shaping the future of healthcare and medical education.
