Earlier today, an email was sent to Oxford parents stating that:

“…students have been told that they cannot wear: hats, hoodies, any headwear, short shirts with midriffs exposed, short shorts, and tennis skirts. Students should be covered from shoulders to mid-thigh.”

This is outrageous for many reasons. Every student should have a right to wear shorts, skirts, hoodies, etc. We are not asking to wear the tiniest crop tops or the shortest shorts, but we just want to be comfortable in the hot summer months.

Almost no store sells shorts that come to mid-thigh, or even finger tip length. We should be able to have our shoulders and legs exposed without the fear of getting sent home or to in school suspension. Not only is being dress-coded embarrassing and unnecessary, but being sent home or taken out of class makes it very hard for the student to learn.

Shouldn’t schools care more about their students education than the length of their shorts or exposed shoulders?
