We are hearing that a second draft Isle of Man Domestic Abuse Bill is almost complete and that it is planned for it to go out for a targeted consultation shortly. We know it is now based on Scots legislation and the idea of domestic abuse as an ongoing pattern and "course of behaviour" not incidents. Also the penalties/sentences are higher under Scottish law. John Trott of AbuseFreeLife Consultancy addressed Members of Tynwald to explain Coercive Control and how important it is to have appropriate legislation and to invest in training for police so that they understand Coercive Control and how to apply the new law. This week we met with a group of women who are going to be filming a short film (a psychological drama) about trying to escape from domestic abuse. It is seen through the eyes of the child. The project sounds really exciting, and information on it can be found here. If you feel strongly about this issue, please consider helping with the crowdfunding for this project: https://greenlit.fund/project/losing-grace Each screening of the film will be followed by a Q&A on domestic abuse with a panel. Photo shows me with Liz Farhadi, Liz is a survivor who both co-wrote the film and is playing the lead role. You can also find more about Liz on the IMDb.
