The deadline for commenting on the proposed Isle of Man domestic abuse Bill is tomorrow - 20-08-2018. Please, if you haven't yet commented, take the time to do so. We believe that the Bill as drafted is inadequate, as is the definition of Coercive Control, and that a maximum sentence of 5 years is not enough.
For all victims, survivors and their families out there, plus anyone who has not experienced abuse, but agrees that it is serious and wrong, this is your chance to help draft a better law. Please have your say and help let the Isle of Man Government know that this is a serious offence, which deserves its own separate law, and which should attract appropriate sentences. Please also take this opportunity to stress that training in coercive control is essential for the police and Judiciary and that without training, no law will be effective.
You only need answer the introduction questions at the Consultation hub, and then skip down to "Domestic Abuse" and just answer the 6 questions on that topic. Your comment really could make a difference. If you could spare the time to answer 6 questions, we would be extremely grateful, thank you!
