CHANGE FOR BABY B’s LAW

Have you or your partner been affected by miscarriage? Could it be you in the future?

We are calling for URGENT changes to the standards of care in private pregnancy scan clinics, following our deeply distressing experience.

On April 1st 2026, we attended a private clinic filled with excitement, expecting to see our baby at 9 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Instead, we were told that our baby’s heartbeat had stopped at 7 weeks and 3 days—a miscarriage with no prior symptoms.

No pain. No bleeding. No warning.

In one of the most devastating moments of our lives, we were placed alone in a small side room while the clinic attempted to contact the local hospital—unsuccessfully. There was no trained professional to support us, no one to guide us through what had just happened, and no one who could answer the many questions we were left with.

After receiving this life-changing news, we were given a piece of paper and told to seek further medical advice. We were also made to feel rushed to leave as we had the scan report pushed on us and door held open despite the trauma we had just experienced.

We left the clinic in shock—upset, confused, and completely unsupported. With services closed (early pregnancy unit with no sonographers available), we were unable to access NHS support for over 24 hours.

Could you imagine going through this alone? Because this is the reality—and we are unlikely to be the only ones.

No family should ever have to face such heartbreak without immediate emotional support. With around 1 in 4 pregnancies ending in miscarriage, this is not rare—it is a deeply human experience that deserves compassion, dignity, and care.

We are calling for a legal requirement that at least one fully trained member of staff in bereavement and pregnancy loss support is present at all times in private scan clinics, with the knowledge to guide families through their next steps.

This is not just about improving care—it is about protecting people in their most vulnerable moments.

We need to make this change.

Support Baby B’s Law: No family should face loss alone. Care in every heartbeat - even when it stops 🪽👼🏻 ❤️

Thank you,

Bella & Jamie
