Change the flag of Essex County, New Jersey to be more visually appealing

The Issue

Hello, my name is Magnus Baden-Campbell and I am a 14 year old living in Essex County, New Jersey. I have been interested in vexillology (the study of flags) for as long as I can remember. As a naturally curious person, I just had to know what the flag of our county was, so I looked it up about a year and a half ago; I was disappointed.

I was disappointed because how bad it looked. First off it has text, which just doesn't look very nice, and can't be read unless the wind is perfect, which it often isn't. There is also the seal in the middle of the flag which makes the flag way to busy, and makes it so that the flag says Essex County TWICE. There is, as far as my research could find, no reason for the flag to look like it does.

Ever since I learned about the look of our flag, I had a nagging itch in my brain that it should be changed to better represent our county, and have a better appearance to the eyes. During the summer break, the thought grew stronger as I saw the flag flying out in the wild at the park near my dad's apartment in Newark, and also outside my middle school in Montclair (Glenfield); So I finally acted on my urge and started my attempt to make a better flag about a week and a few days ago, and I think I have made a great flag that represents the different cities and towns of our beautiful county.

The three black lines on the hoist (left) of the flag represent both the built-up cities in our county, and it also looks like a stylized "E", which represents the first letter in the name Essex county.

On the fly (right) of the flag, there is half of an orange circle. This represents the sun. The sun is important because it shows a bright future for Essex County, and the sun that rises over the towns and villages of Essex county (And it also looks like an orange which can represent: Orange, East Orange, West Orange, and South Orange).

The background of the flag is blue, which represents the many beautiful lakes and rivers that are abundant here in Essex county.

Overall, I believe that my redesign of the flag is better than the old one because it better represents the Essex county of today and the future, follows most conventional flag rules, and looks much better.
