Change the Dividing Fences Act NSW to protect horses.

The issue

NCAT (NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal), is responsible for implementing the Dividing Fences Act NSW.

Horses experience catastrophic injuries and death, thanks to uninformed NCAT decision makers and out of touch legislation.

Experienced equestrians, veterinarians, the NSW governement and the RSPCA, advise against the use of barbed wire for horses due to the high risk of severe injury.

Barbed wire also causes injury and death to wildlife.

When determining a ‘sufficient’ dividing fence, NCAT considers whether a fence will effectively contain animals. NCAT gives no consideration to the injury and death risks posed by barbed wire. This needs to change.

There are safer alternatives.

We want to see the Dividing Fences Act NSW revised to include animal welfare considerations and we want decision makers to have training so they understand that barbed wire is unsafe for horses.

We will use your signatures to petition parliament to revise the Act to protect horses from barbed wire.

If you care about horses, please sign (and share!) this petition.
