Every year the Ocean City Prom is on a date that conflicts with multiple athletic events.  Student-Athletes should not have to choose or stress about one of the biggest events of their high school career.  Every 11th & 12th grade student should be able to attend and look forward to going to Prom!   The date could be weeks earlier, prior to Track State sectionals and the Stotesbury Regatta, the world's biggest high school rowing competition.   The dates of these events cannot be changed, but the date of Prom certainly can be.   Other Varsity teams like lacrosse also begin playoffs less than 36 hours after prom, adding additional stress that is unnecessary.   Students choose to represent Ocean City in a variety of athletic and extra curricular activities-which strengthen the profile and success of our institution. They shouldn’t have to choose between milestone memories such as prom and participating in athletic contests. The ability to do both-at a high level—should be the standard.

Students also deserve the opportunity to attend the event similar to what it was years ago at The Flanders.  In a venue where they can enjoy a real sit down dinner inside, where the temperature is controlled and the atmosphere is elegant  as all other local schools do.    This year, the cost was $110 a person.  The menu included chicken tenders, mac & cheese, pasta salad, soup and soda was to be had straight from the can.  A cost like that could more than cover a dinner served by waitstaff and an unlimited soda bar where the students are given glassware to drink from.
