Change the age verification process in Tik Tok to aid content creators

Change the age verification process in Tik Tok to aid content creators
The Issue
Recently, a very beloved and famous Call of Duty Tik Tok star named Inquisitor3 took his life during a Tik Tok Live on October, 9th, 2023. Inquisitor was faced with false allegations pertaining to pedophilia that caused his reputation to be tarnished and ultimately led to the decline of his mental health and unfortunate demise at the young age of 23.
The rumors started between Tik Tok couple Tito and his partner AJ/Daniel/Daneel and were backed up and accompanied by other users such as Bravo-07 and Keegans Mask, spreading a false narrative of a wholesome Tik Tok star who didn't deserve to lose his life to cyber harassment and serious false allegations.
AJ (also known by several alias' such as Daniel/Daneel) was the alleged mastermind behind the idea of faking her age to appear older and garner flirtatious messages between herself and Inquisitor before unveiling the reality that she was a minor. Several discord messages between the two were edited/altercated to paint Inquisitor as someone that he was not and other famous Tik Tok stars mentioned above jumped on the bandwagon to support AJ's claims without proper physical evidence/proof.
This in turn caused the community to turn against Inquisitor and paints a horrific narrative on the real results caused by cancel culture.
This however, is not the first case of this occurring...
"A third of children aged between 8 and 17 sign in on social media with a false date of birth so they show up as an adult user. Two-thirds of children aged between 8 and 12 had help from a parent or guardian to set up the false profile, according to new research commissioned by UK’s media regulating authority Ofcom" - Source; Ofcom.org.uk
Being a Tik Tok user myself, I know several of my friends have experienced minors trying to bait them into acts of pedophilia for some sense of "vigilante justice." Their age will either not appear on their bio page or will wholeheartedly lie about their true age online. These children have no idea as to how their actions online can translate and impact others in the real world outside of the social media fame rush. For such reasons, I believe its time to make a change in order to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
It is time to implement a proper age verification system to keep content creators safe.
Sites such as OnlyFans and Patreon's 18+ services have a requirement to upload a government issued ID such as a passport, Drivers License, Health card, etc. While the risk is reduced between minors and adults interacting on these apps, Tik Tok has no care or respect for the community itself that brought the app to fruition in the first place. This is a huge spit in the face to content creators that are trying to keep minors and their audiences safe and quite frankly its disgusting what little care they deliver to their creators:
- There is an 18+ Filter that merely shows a pop up.
- We want to see ages displayed on all Tik Tok profiles.
- We as creators want to have the option to filter which age group can view and interact with our content.
- Additionally we would like a similar verification system put into place that runs along the same tracks as OnlyFans/Patreon's 18+ services.
The fact that Vincent/Inquisitors live was up for 2 hours and the accounts involved with his un-aliving were up longer than his goes to show Tik Tok's true colors and neglect towards sensitive material. If Tik Tok doesn't change its ways soon, it will be overrun by a newer and better social media application in the future. While money speaks, the application is nothing without its content creators and community so please listen to us.
Many thanks to all my friends who wish to be unnamed for making this happen and thank YOU for reading this far. Rest Easy Inquisitor, its time we use the fuel of anger to make a positive change in the community not only for Vincent's legacy but for a safer experience to all on Tik Tok.
