UPDATE MAY 2026 

I will be advocating to the North Sydney Council in the next few weeks to include the changing of street lights to warm white in the upcoming budget 2026-27.

I've included below the email addresses of the Lord Mayor and her assistant so please feel free to email them to advise them that you're wanting the council to change the street lights to warm white LED. Please remember, its your rates that pay for these street lights so you have a right to say if you're wanting them warm white.

As you may have noticed over the last 12 months or so the councils in Sydney area  have been changing the street lights from mercury vapour warm white to a very bright LED cool white.

When I personally spoke to my local council North Sydney Council, they claimed that these new very bright LED cool white lights were safer and better for your health without any evidence.

The AMA ( American medical Association) have been trying ( and been successful) to get the councils in the U.S to change to warm white LED street lighting for the below reasons.

1. They are are less disruptive to human sleep patterns which is crucial for health of the locals.

2. They create less glare which is safer for driving round at night.

3. Better for nocturnal wildlife as they are less impact on the environment.

4. They create a more pleasing ambiance at night.

5. The warmer white create a less glow to the light pollution.

So far, several councils around the world and Australia have been convinced by the AMA and locals to change to a warm white LED street lights ( for the above reasons) and they include:

City of Palmerston (NT) , Salisbury Council (SA), Kwaiana Council (WA), Tea Tree Council (SA), Bellingen Council (NSW) , Baw Baw Shire Council (VIC) and Central Coast Council (NSW)

So please support this cause by signing the petition to send a message to the councils and State Government that we the people who pay for these things have a right to have a choice in the manner including using warm white street lighting.
