Our family's life was irreparably altered when our trusted healthcare providers committed a grave error. My son, who has Down syndrome, suffered harm due to negligence at the hands of doctors who lied and failed to document their actions. This has led to a heartbreaking situation where my once stable, two-income household was reduced to one in order for me to become his full-time caregiver.

When attempting to seek justice for this undeniable malpractice, we faced an unexpected and infuriating barrier; I was repeatedly turned away by attorneys, pro bono or otherwise. We quickly discovered that existing law allows them to refuse representation based on my son's disability. To make matters worse, the statute of limitations in our area only allows two years for us to bring this case before a judge. That's hardly enough time for families reeling from such sudden life changes.

This is not just unjust, but a severe form of discrimination. Discrimination based on disability must not be tolerated, especially when perpetrated by those who are supposed to uphold justice. Individuals with disabilities should never be turned away because of their disabilities, leaving them without access to legal recourse. Doctors who injure patients and then choose to omit crucial evidence from their records should not be shielded by the law.

We possess clear video and photo evidence that proves my son's condition was not present prior to the doctors' negligence. Yet, without legal support, justice remains out of reach.

We demand a reformation of the statute of limitations, increasing the time period to seek justice in medical malpractice cases, particularly involving disabled individuals. Furthermore, laws must be enacted to prevent attorneys from discriminating against clients with disabilities, ensuring everyone has fair access to representation.
