As a devoted animal lover, I am deeply frustrated and saddened by the fate of many dogs at the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter in Georgia. Often, these innocent animals face euthanasia, not due to health issues or untreatable conditions, but solely because the shelter runs out of space. What's even more disheartening is the lack of urgent pleas on social media that could potentially save these precious lives. Often times these dogs are put down without warning, no at risk plea, no urgent plea, no final calls! They just put the precious animals down without them ever having the chance to be saved. The current social media policy prohibiting volunteers from taking pictures and sharing them on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter is a significant roadblock to raising awareness and increasing adoptions. In today's digital age, social media is one of the most powerful tools to connect potential adopters with animals in need. By sharing captivating photos, heartwarming videos, and touching stories of these animals, we can truly make a difference in their lives.

Changing the social media policy to allow volunteers to actively share content about the animals and allowing them to post urgent and final pleas can significantly increase adoption rates and drastically reduce euthanasia rates. Imagine the joy of knowing that more dogs are finding loving homes where they can thrive and bring happiness to families.

Many other shelters across the country have successfully implemented similar policies. For instance, shelters in Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles, California, have successfully increased adoption rates by leveraging social media to its full potential. There is no reason Gwinnett County cannot do the same.

I urge the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter to reconsider and allow trained volunteers to photograph and post about animals available for adoption. This simple policy change could save countless lives, give these deserving animals a second chance, and bring joy to families looking for a four-legged companion. I urge for the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter to post urgent and final pleas for all dogs when the shelter begins to reach capacity or a dog is declining in the shelter!

Please join me in advocating for this crucial change. Your signature on this petition can push for a transformation that will benefit the animals, the shelter, and the community at large. Sign now to help make a difference!
